community + culture

Initially, the city grew from an immigration center along the waterfront bringing in a wide assortment of people and cultures in hopes of the American dream. To this day, many of these diverse cultures have found a home in our city and have founded distinct communities. We will explore the iconic areas around the city as well as learn about the day-to-day community interaction that makes the city what it is today. This track will shine a spotlight on Philadelphia’s community organizations and collaborations, giving attendees an idea of what makes the city special - it’s people.

sustainability + innovation

Sustainability is the practice of meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to sustain themselves. As architecture moves towards being more environmentally conscious, Philadelphia embodies this notion by being home to many buildings that exemplify sustainability and innovation. The city continues to push the limits of high end adaptive reuse projects as well as technologically advanced green building systems as part of their citywide initiative. This track will visit sites and architectural firms that challenge green building standards and push for innovative solutions.
